Virginia’s New River Valley and the Southern Virginia regions are prepared to respond to many global market gaps that are preventing the success of additive manufacturing and advanced materials technologies. These gaps include:
Lack of industry knowledge to integrate AM2 hardware and software into the larger manufacturing process
Limited knowledge of and access to affordable polymers, metals, and other composites that can be adapted to manufacturing and AM2 needs
Globally, the use of additive manufacturing and sustainable materials in manufacturing are expected to grow from an estimated $16.83 billion (2022) to $44.03 billion (2027), an average annual growth rate of 21%. The United States and Virginia need to capture much of this market in order to maintain national security and gain a global competitive advantage.
